A parallel algorithm for 3D dislocation dynamics
نویسندگان
چکیده
Dislocation dynamics (DD), a discrete dynamic simulation method in which dislocations are the fundamental entities, is a powerful tool for investigation of plasticity, deformation and fracture of materials at the micron length scale. However, severe computational difficulties arising from complex, long-range interactions between these curvilinear line defects limit the application of DD in the study of large-scale plastic deformation. We present here the development of a parallel algorithm for accelerated computer simulations of DD. By representing dislocations as a 3D set of dislocation particles, we show here that the problem of an interacting ensemble of dislocations can be converted to a problem of a particle ensemble, interacting with a long-range force field. A grid using binary space partitioning is constructed to keep track of node connectivity across domains. We demonstrate the computational efficiency of the parallel micro-plasticity code and discuss how O(N) methods map naturally onto the parallel data structure. Finally, we present results from applications of the parallel code to deformation in single crystal fcc metals. 2006 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

3D Path Planning Algorithm for Mobile Anchor-Assisted Positioning in Wireless Sensor Networks
Positioning service is one of Wireless Sensor Networks’ (WSNs) fundamental services. The accurate position of the sensor nodes plays a vital role in many applications of WSNs. In this paper, a 3D positioning algorithm is being proposed, using mobile anchor node to assist sensor nodes in order to estimate their positions in a 3D geospatial environment. However, mobile anchor node’s 3D path optim...

متن کاملLarge-Scale Molecular Dynamics Simulations of Three-Dimensional Ductile Fracture
We have performed massively parallel 3D molecular dynamics simulations with up to 35 million atoms to investigate ductile fracture. We have obtained mechanistic information at the atomistic level inaccessible to experiment. We observe dislocation loops emitted from the crack front|the rst time this has been seen in computer simulations. The sequence of dislocation emission (crack blunting proce...
متن کاملStochastic O(N ) algorithm for dislocation dynamics
A new computer simulation method based on stochastic integration of the Langevin equations of dislocation motion is proposed for the investigation of the dynamic properties of a system of parallel straight dislocations. The stochastic approach developed for weakly correlated dislocation systems allows for more than 106 dislocations in the simulation area. Relaxation of a system of 220 parallel ...
متن کاملDislocation motion in thin Cu foils: a comparison between computer simulations and experiment
Discrete dislocation dynamics (DD) simulations in conjunction with stereo and in situ straining transmission electronic microscopy (TEM) were used to study dislocation motion in thin Cu foils. Stereo imaging prior to and following in situ tensile straining is utilized to describe the three-dimensional (3D) evolution of dislocation structures with incremental straining and observation by TEM. Th...
